Hi all and thank you Sue. On Washington Island and the adjacent Door, I saw lines of Long-tails to the northwest on the way in (2/2), also Golden-eyes among the ice floes, Bufflehead, Herring Gulls (some immies), one Redhead in Detroit Harbor among the other species near shore. Birding at the ferry dock, I observed a lone Golden-eye trapped among the huge ice floes. I wondered how it would find a long enough runway in the water to make a get-away. It already seemed nervous due to my proximity. When the ferry people started a loud motor, the Golden-eye jumped upward and started cruising low over the ice floes to safer places. I guess they can do it but it probably takes a lot of energy. The ferry crew reported a Snowy Owl on an ice floe between the ferry and Plum Island seen three days earlier. Also a (3-year old?) Bald Eagle. At Chari's we scoped a long line of probably Scaup way out, likely Redheads among them. There were some Red-breasted Mergansers within scope distance as well. On the east and south sides of the Island, there were Tundras (100+) and Mutes as well as Bufflehead and Goldeneyes observed by Donna Benson and me. The Island itself was somewhat depauperate of birds except for Chari's feeders.
