Made a run for the Say's Phoebe today & got it just before noon today
between the ponds at the end of Goose Lake Rd. near Verona in Dane County.
Thanks to all who posted helpful information. Also got Eastern Phoebe & Y.
B. Sapsucker as well as FOY Tree Swallows there.
Highlights there & back from Redgranite included a single Snow Goose at
Goose Ponds, Arlington. Arlington also had 2 Euro Collared Doves on County
Rd. i - a half block north of Hwy 60.
Got a flock of 300 or so Lapland Longspurs heading S/W towards
(Harvey?Wangsness?) followed closely by another flock of maybe 60 Lap.
Longspurs a half minute later at Hwy 60 & 22/51 Pond. That pond also had 7
G. W. Fronted Geese & Blue Winged Teal.
DM/i had a Wilson's Snipe close to the road.
Park Lake in Pardeeville, Columbia Co., was stuffed with Common Loons. We
quit counting but a safe estimate for the entire lake would be 50.
We got Osprey's in Pardeeville & just north of there on a tower just east
of Hwy's 22 & 33.
About a 70 bird day with lots of misses, but some FOY's. We did not card a
shorebird besides Killdeer all day.
The temps in Columbia County were 70 degrees when we headed north & by the
time we got to Monty (Montello) it had dropped to 48 with a 180 degree
opposite wind.
