A quick walk around the County Grounds (Milwaukee) at the end of last week produced in very short order a Rough-legged Hawk (which was also found the week before by Owen Boyle), an American Kestrel, a Red-tailed Hawk and then a Red-shouldered Hawk. Hawk - Walworth County Both showed up in my neighborhood yesterday. The Carolina Wren was singing from the treetops. The Red-shouldered Hawk was back next door, calling and perching, near the site of its nest for the last 3 years. The Breeding Bird Survey reports that these hawks are usually back on territory in early March - so this is about 2 weeks early.
