On our way back from northern Wisconsin this weekend, we drove slowly through portions of the Chequamegon/Nicolet National Forest. Some highlights included: a Gray Jay and a flock of Cedar Waxwings along Forest Road 2182 near the Pine River Bridge; Chestnut-sided, Canada, Nashville, Yellow-rumped, Blackburnian, and Black-throated Green Warblers along Forest Road 2178; a Broad-winged Hawk; and a pair of Trumpeter Swans on Shelp Lake, as well as (off topic) a porcupine in the middle of the road and a fresh pile of bear scat a mile or so farther (also 2178). Steve Fisher Wausau, Marathon County "If I had to choose, I would rather have birds than airplanes." Charles A. Lindbergh "Chance favors the prepared mind."
