Also had nice looks at an adult glaucous gull there today. I got closer looks from the point by the sailing center later. This bird appears to be molting into second winter plumage and still has the appearance of a first winter bird. I watched this bird for almost an hour, standing and in flight (part of the time with Jym Mooney). Look for a dark bird with a darker gray mantle, very heavy markings on the neck, breast and belly. It has a strong contrasting white rump and black tail, long dark and attenuated primaries, barrel chested in flight, very reduced pale window on inner primaries, extensive dark primaries up to the greater and median coverts. The bill was long and straight, almost all black with pale at the base -more consistent with a first winter not second winter bird.
