Hello,
I made a trip to the BV Grasslands today. Birds were pretty active. Savannah
sparrows were all over the place, a few song sparrows and a single junco were
seen. The biggest surprise to me was a Bobolink. I donât usually see those
until May, so that was nice. I saw a single Greater Prairie Chicken while
making a recording of two Eastern meadowlarks calling back and forth across the
street to each other. One appeared to have nest-making material, which
probably isnât a surprise. Lots of SH Cranes, a few BW teal, a wood duck and
a thrasher round out the main sightings. Oh, there were 5 N harriers hunting
the same area along with a single RT Hawk. I watched them for quite awhile.
The chicken appeared to have been flushed as i saw it fly about 100 yards
before disappearing again, maybe a Harrier got too close?
On my way back to Milwaukee there were ~20 White Pelican flying over the bridge
across lake Butte de Morts.
Lastly, I made a few recordings of what I believe to be Western Meadowlarks and
would appreciate if someone could confirm or deny! Iâm not sure how to add a
link, so if you could back-channel me I will send you the calls. The
photography is still be a work in progress, but I managed a few decent shots if
anyone wants to take a look - mostly harriers, a few savannah sparrows and the
bobolink in flight. Here is the link⦠https://flic.kr/ps/2nsjK1 ;
