Matt, feel free to submit it. It's sort of a complicated issue with exotics in eBird. The short answer is they are encouraging people to submit everything. That said, something like this will probably get invalidated on the back end and hidden from public output because this likely is not part of a population that will become established. With other birds (e.g. European Goldfinch, Great Tit) although they are clearly escapes, they may become established in the future and the only way we will be able to have any information on distribution/abundances is if people enter these in even if not wild or countable. So in general they are encouraging you to report everything, even though some things may not be included on the public output at this time, that could change in the future if they develop new tools to show "non-countable" species. Nick Anich Ashland Subject: Budgerigar in La Crosse Date: Sun Sep 8 2013 12:50 pm From: matpaulson AT netscape.net No doubt this is an escaped bird and not a vagrant from Australia, but an interesting sight nonetheless. It was found at the start of the spillway dike on the west side of French Island. It is all yellow and seems to be loosely associated with a small group of grackles. It was observed flying among the cottonwoods at the start of the dike and the first yard north of the dike. Does anyone know if eBird would want this submitted? I couldn't find any guidelines on escaped or feral birds on the site.
