While looking for butterflies and dragonflies along the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway this afternoon, my wife and I found a pair of BELL'S VIREOS just west of the town of Avoca, about 1/4 mile up the dirt road that runs north towards the river about 1/2 mile west of the intersection of Hwys 133 and 80. Other highlights in the Avoca area included a chase involving three separate Yellow-billed Cuckoos, several Giant Swallowtail butterflies (and 12 other butterfly species) and lots of Common Baskettail dragonflies. In the Blue River Unit of the LWSR just west of Muscoda, we saw LARK SPARROWS quite a ways in on the dirt road.
