Yeah but I have 300 of these systems to put out...that is a tedious solution at best. I actually figured out what the problem was, there was a help file missing when the driver was installed so the new user logging in would not detect the driver as being installed and try and install it. If you read the article even if you elevate ACL's it won't work so that isn't a solution. This is a bug because if users don't have access and never will have access to install a local printer then windows certainly shouldn't be trying to run the install wizard and install the driver for a local printer again when you plug it in logged in as a user. -----Original Message----- From: windows2000-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:windows2000-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Daniel Ensor Sent: Friday, March 05, 2004 6:18 AM To: 'windows2000@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [windows2000] Re: Windows XP Printer autocreation detection Hi Jim I'd try Chris suggestion of temporarily raising the users local group to admin then install and drop them back when done, I have done that for other stupid MS nonsense's like this and it does usually work fine. The printer IS installed as an admin. When the user logs on it trys to install it again for some stupid reason as described in the article. Can't you just install the printer and then deny the users access to it? I know it's not really what you're looking to do, but I guess if it's installed, the users won't get prompted to install. But, I thought that if you installed a local printer, it would already be installed for any user who logs on. That is not the case?
