I wouldn't use 5 for data, unless it's a pretty static database and most of the operations will just be queries. I'd use 1 or 10. I'd only use 1 if that's all that the budget would allow though, and I'd setup backups every five minutes or less. Ray at work -----Original Message----- From: Brian Anderson [mailto:BAnderson@xxxxxxxxxx] sorry, my apologies... I double checked with my DBA... It's 10 for the OS/swap, 5 for the data, and 10 for the transaction logs -----Original Message----- From: Brian Anderson everything I've seen points to 10-5-10... Raid10 for your OS, Raid5 for your swap, Raid10 for your database files. That's what we generally do on the SQL DB servers in the Citrix farms we deploy. Of course, these are pretty beefy 4- and 8-way boxes, though. -----Original Message----- From: Bill Beckett [mailto:Bill.Beckett@xxxxxxxxxx] Just wanted to get the lists opinion on this. We have RAID 5 for several of our servers. However, our database server is going to be rebuilt and I have read several articles saying that RAID 5 is not a good choice for a DB server. What would you guys recommend for a DB Server? ********************************************************************************************************** The information contained in this e-mail message is intended only for the personal and confidential use of the recipient(s) named above.
