There are servers that are specifically designed for database servers. They have battery backup write-caching disk controllers. It all depends on what you're going to do with the database. Is it write-intensive? RAID 1 is good for redundancy, and has mediocre read/write performance. RAID 5 will give you good read performance but weak write performance. Of course, RAID 0 is good if you want to participate in the DBA's X-Games. If at all possible, go with RAID 10. Then you get good read and write, and redundancy. Of course, it'll cost a little more. Ray at work -----Original Message----- From: Bill Beckett [mailto:Bill.Beckett@xxxxxxxxxx] Just wanted to get the lists opinion on this. We have RAID 5 for several of our servers. However, our database server is going to be rebuilt and I have read several articles saying that RAID 5 is not a good choice for a DB server. What would you guys recommend for a DB Server? ********************************************************************************************************** The information contained in this e-mail message is intended only for the personal and confidential use of the recipient(s) named above.
