I was just curious... IP based KVM frighten me, if they are your only
option... what if your switch is screwed, or your IP settings are screwed,
or something like that?

Up the creek without a paddle...

Ahh... yeah you are right. Mine must not be an IP kvm, it does just what
you say, allows a VGA connection over CAT5. It is not run through my
switch. It is directly connected through the patch panel....Sorry for the
mis-information. I forgot how I set this up!!!!

But it does allow me to use the KVM switch (in the server room) from my
desktop which is not in the server room ;)

Does this actually work over IP, or does it just allow you to shoot a VGA
cable over CAT5?

Just curious...

I use Belkin's omniview cat5 extender. It works ok. Nothing special. I
needed to use it because I couldn't fit a monitor in the server room any
more. So I ran it to my desktop. I rarely need to use it because of
terminal services. Also when I have it plugged in it electrically
interferes with my monitor, so I only plug it in when I need to use it. It
took a little while to configure it correctly, but all in all it works.

If I was using it more frequently I would opt for another solution, most
likely a different brand.

I just started researching IP KVM's. I would like to hear experiences
Good/Bad from anyone on the list that is currently using them, and what make
and model your using.

Thanks,jb
