That all depends on how compressable the data is. Some data (.zips, =
.cabs, etc) are already compressed. Compressing them further only =
increase the size of the file.

Also, which tape driver are you using? Opt for a newer version from the =
manufacture if it's available.

Subject: [windows2000] Compression on DAT 20/40 Drive....

Hi All,

I have a question regarding the backing up of our Windows 2000 Exchange =
=3D
Server. It uses Backup Exec 8.60 to backup the Information Store and =
=3D
Mailboxes to a fairly new DAT 20/40 drive using DDS4 150 metre tapes. =
=3D
The compression is set within Backup Exec to use Hardware.

The problem I have is it will only ever backup 20Gb onto the tape before =
=3D
saying the tape is full and prompting for another one. I need to backup =
=3D
about 30Gb of data. Can anyone tell me why I can't get more than 20Gb =
=3D
on to a tape, because from my understanding I could be able to get =3D
closer to 40Gb with compression.

Any ideas?

Thanks
