usb headset

I've just bought myself a usb headset. All sound on the pc seems to play
through the headset when it's plugged in. However winamp still plays through
the pc speakers. What I'd like to be able to do is to have winamp lay
through the headset if it's plugged in, and through the pc speakers if it's
not. I have a feeling this may not be possible, does anybody have any ideas?
