normalize sound

I'm using sqr for cross fading.  Do I need something for normalizing the 
volume, if that's what it's called.  Looking for something to keep the volume 
of mp3's fairly stable.  Thanks.  Also, can I use it in conjunction with the 
crossfade?  Thanks.
