I am looking to retire the BDC, take it off line permanently. I want to remove it from AD so AD does not expect the BDC to exist. Is deleting the computer object enough to remove a BDC from AD? But to each his own. There are a few ways you could go about it. Either remove the machine from the network and delete the computer account in AD, or switch your 2000 domain to native mode so that it will not replicate to any BDC's. The key word here is ANY BDC's. If you go to native mode, you can not go back to mixed mode, and any other BDC's will not be replicated to. Good Luck! I upgraded a PDC and one BDC to Win2000. I have another BDC that I do not want to upgrade but it does show as a DC in AD. How can I remove the BDC from AD without having to upgrade it to Win2000 and demote it using dcpromo?
