Dear Whitman Elementary Family and Friends, Many apologies for not sending out an update but as the Whitman PTA is an all-volunteer organization, we got a little busy with recent activities. The Whitman PTA Board of 2012-2013 want to thank you all for attending a successful back-to-school night last week and it was wondering to hear from all of Whitman Elementary Partners and hearing about the new music after-school program! We also want to thank you all for attending the Whitman PTA Association meeting as approving and adopting various business items allows the Whitman PTA to continue its service oriented work in order to help enhance the educational experience for the students of Whitman. Here are some happenings and items that may be of interest to you. Whitman PTA Membership: New or current members, please consider joining the Whitman PTA. Membership is only $5 per person and all community members are welcomed, membership is not excluded to families of students at Whitman but to any community member - even if you don't live in the area. Having membership will have benefits for you as well as help PTA continue to be advocates for children. Membership forms are available at the office. PTA Memberships are effective November 1 - October 31, if you paid in the last school year, why delay and renew your membership today! Fall Fundraiser: By now you have heard that the Fall Fundraiser has officially started, this is Whitman PTA's biggest fundraiser for the fiscal year and the Whitman PTA Board appreciates everyone's support. Don't forget that for you remote supporters they can place an order online (be aware that taxes and optional shipping will be applied) and that online orders continue for one week after the order forms are due. Order forms with payments are due on October 8, 2012 and make checks payable to Whitman PTA. Volunteers of Whitman PTA will be doing the first drawing at 1:05 pm on Wed and all coupons turned in will have the bracelets delivered as soon as possible. Join the Whitman PTA Board If you would like to have an active participation with the Whitman PTA Board for 2012-2013, there are open positions for Parent Grade Reps. The Whitman PTA Board needs reps from each of the grades as this provides a means for information to go to and from the classrooms to the Whitman PTA board, many activities are planned by the wonderful teachers at Whitman and we don't always know what's and that's where Parent Grade Reps help! At a minimum, Parent Grade Reps need to attend monthly one-hour board meetings and serve and the liaison for the grade. If you are interested and would like to learn more, please feel free to contact us at whitmanpta@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Fall Carnival October 27, 2012 12 pm - 4 pm Whitman Elementary Blacktop Volunteers have been meeting to begin the planning of this popular community event. If you would like to participate in the Fall Carnival Committee, this includes families and teachers, please contact us at whitmanpta@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx and we'll send your contact information to the Fall Carnival Chair, Juliana Rintoul. We are currently seeking help to approach various local business and we have had a great success but we would be happy to have more. More information on how, when, and where you can help will be sent out soon. There will be Games, Food, Vendors, Entertainment, as well as a chance to win a variety of prizes such as Gift Cards to local businesses and a items signed by Tony Hawk and Candace Nelson from their recent fundraiser at the Sprinkles Cupcakery in La Jolla. Proposition 38 CA State PTA Backed initiative is on the ballot for this year. Register to vote by October 22 so you can vote for this year's November election.
