Degree and area of specialization:
A baccalaureate degree is required, master's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of degree and experience.


Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Two or more years professional experience, preferably in a post-secondary setting, working with people who are deaf and hard of hearing.


Previous experience coordinating interpreting and speech to text services desired, preferably in a post-secondary setting.

Current knowledge of interpreter and speech to text credentials, assessments, and best practices.

Ability to determine student service eligibility and assess employee skill level necessary to provide sign language interpreting and speech to text services.

Knowledge of deafness, services and accommodations for postsecondary students who are d/Deaf and hard of hearing, role and functions of sign language interpreters and speech to text providers, and communication methods used by individuals who are d/Deaf and hard of hearing.

Knowledge, comfort and experience in working with people who are d/Deaf, hard of hearing, or who have disabilities and state and federal laws applying to nondiscrimination.

Ability to advocate effectively for students and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program staff, and for the development of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Program.

Strong writing and interpersonal skills.

Tact, diplomacy and firmness in dealing with students, faculty and staff.

Ability to work independently, track multiple projects, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and demonstrate flexibility in responding to change.

Knowledge of current office technologies.

Moderate to native fluency in sign language strongly desired.

Supervisory experience preferred.

Grant writing experience preferred.

Budget experience and ability to forecast anticipated costs preferred.

Job Opening: DHHA Program Director

DHHA is seeking a qualified and responsible Deaf community member to work in DHHA Home Office and to assist in serving the needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. This position is a half-time position and this job will have a mentor of current Program Director. The position will begin on July 1, 2006.

Job responsibilities include:

• Attending regular meetings with the Board of Directors
• Implementing goals and objectives as directed by the Board of Directors and/or the strategic plan
• Development of programming to meet the identified “priority” needs as determined by the strategic plan
• Assisting Deaf community members in the implementation of identified priority programming
• Work with committees on seeking opportunities for grant monies and/or matching funds from foundations and donors.


Job qualifications include:
• ASL fluent, a strong knowledge of Deaf culture, and a good tied to the signing community
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with signing individuals and hearing individuals
• Strong writing ability
• Experience with large group presentations
• Experience with program development, including organization and set up, advertising and marketing, implementation and follow-up
• Active participation and links with the Signing community
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability and motivation to work independently, as a self-starter
• Computer literacy, including word processing, database and spreadsheet programs and publishing programs.

(with paid opportunity to learn C-Print skill during July and August, 2006)

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Deaf/Hard of Hearing Program invites applications for the position of Student Services Specialist (or Associate Student Service Specialist) - Sign Language Interpreter/C-Print Captionist with the Student Accessibility Center, Deaf/Hard of Hearing Program. This is a 9-month academic year renewable staff position with benefits and is open to interpreters trained in C-Print Captioning or interpreters interested in gaining C-Print skills. Staff hired at an Associate Student Services Specialist level (pre-RID certified or without BA degree) will participate in a supportive, in-house mentoring program. DUTIES: Interpret/transliterate (sign language and oral interpreting), and provide C-Print captioning for classroom lectures, discussions, labs and related activities as well as other campus and community activities. Prepare for classes and consult with professors and TA's. Assist with program support functions as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:
• BA/BS degree preferred or commitment to actively pursue degree.
• ITP or equivalent to perform duties required.
• RID Certification or National Interpreter Certification (NIC) preferred (or commitment to actively pursue certification) or


Wisconsin WITA level II (or equivalent NAD or verification from another state) in both transliterating and interpreting.
• Completion of C-Print training OR willingness to participate in paid ($14/hr) 60-hour internship during July and August 2006 in which candidate will complete C-Print Captionist Training. The C-Print training is a self-guided, web-based training that will be completed at UWM by the candidate sometime before August 21, 2006. The training schedule is flexible and can be completed at the candidate’s convenience.
• Minimum typing speed of 60 word/minute and demonstrate satisfactory phonetic recognitions skills on a 10-minute phonetic assessment test.

Society’s Assets, Inc is seeking a qualified individual to work as a Customer Service Representative at the Wisconsin Telecommunications Relay System in Madison, Wisconsin.

General Information
The Customer Service Representative performs a variety of job functions in order to provide an optimum level of relay customer service. The primary job responsibilities of the Customer Service Representative are to serve as the principal point of contact for WTRS consumers and give educational presentations about the relay system. This position requires travel and schedule flexibility.


Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Three or more years of exposure to Deaf Culture and the diverse communication needs of people who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing


and/or Speech Disabled.
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Ability to communicate effectively on the phone and in person
- Experience in public speaking
