SORENSON COMMUNICATIONS ANNOUNCES ITS SPONSORSHIP OF THE GALLAUDET
UNIVERSITY NATIONAL ACADEMIC BOWL
Industry-leading VRS Provider Supports Regional and National Deaf
Academic Competitions
SALT LAKE CITY (April 19, 2006) – Sorenson Communications today
announced its platinum level sponsorship of the Gallaudet University
National Academic Bowl. As the nation’s foremost high school student
competition for deaf and hard-of-hearing students, the National Academic
Bowl provides an opportunity to compete for an all expenses paid trip to
Washington DC and the coveted national title.
Sorenson Communications sponsors the event by providing students with
access to Sorenson VP-100 videophones to update family and friends with
the daily details of the academic competition. Additionally, the company
gives away a portable PlayStation at each competition, hosts a Saturday
night social for competing students, and sets up an Internet café at the
National Academic Bowl for students to check their e-mail. The company
remains committed to supporting the deaf and hard-of-hearing community
throughout the country.
“We are proud to be the premier sponsor of the Gallaudet University
National Academic Bowl for deaf and hard-of-hearing high school
students,” said Pat Nola, President and CEO of Sorenson Communications.
“The company sees value in providing support for endeavors like this
competition, which make a difference in the lives of the deaf leaders of
tomorrow.”
The Gallaudet University Academic Bowl offers new opportunities to
students like Matthew Maxey, Senior at Berkmar High School in Lilburn,
Georgia.
“The National Academic Bowl is a cool competition — I continue to meet
more people like me from all over the southeast and have fun while
participating in the challenging competition,” said Maxey. “I had no
idea how big this competition was until it led me to be accepted into
Gallaudet University as a student. Now my future looks brighter than ever.”
