&

Dane County recently received a grant to purchase NOAA Weather Radios for Dane County residents. Residents can buy the radio for $20.30 but will be responsible for accessories (strobe light or vibrating device) to connect to the radio. Dave Janda, who is Assistant Director at the Dane County Department of Emergency Management, will give a talk and answer your questions about the radio and emergency preparedness.

The weather radio is a good alerting device for Deaf residents because we can receive the information via printed text. And it is especially important when severe storms or other events occur at night when we are sound asleep.

Deaf people living in surrounding counties are welcome!
ASL Interpreted.

Refreshments will be provided.

ASL Classes at MATC – Levels 1, 2 and 3

Since Family Enhancement/Shore to Shore is no longer offering formal ASL classes, we have been advocating that interested people take the non-credit Sign Language classes with MATC’s Adult and Continuing Education. Level 2 and 3 classes are on Beld Avenue at the Catholic Multicultural Center. They are offering childcare for these two classes, with an emphasis on learning and supporting sign language needs of these kids. They need one more registered student for Level 3 for the class to be held for sure. They have enough students for Level 2, but they can take more students at this time. Level 1 classes have open spots as well.

Class information is available online at www.matcmadison.edu. Click on a-z index, click on ACE (Adult and Continuing Ed), click on courses and then scroll down to Sign Language.

You will need the following course numbers when you do register online:

Level 1 Downtown: 25993 Tues, 25995 Wed
Middleton: 26045 Mon

Level 2 36062

Level 3 36063
