You can run tests there, for your file upload and file download speeds.

Edel,

Ok, so you're talking about the immediate connection between your computer's Ethernet card and the phone jack. yes, it could be the Belkin adapter. If you wish to test or get a good idea of your real broadband speed, you could visit

www.testmy.net

Hi Flor

It is definitely Mbps. At work it is 100Mbps which I used to have here. However I am living in a rural area so maybe I'll double check before I go making a fool of myself!

I did change to a belkin usb adaptor recently as opposed to the direct cable, maybe that's the problem. What do you think?

Edel..

Edel,

need to be sure what exactly the 100 mbps is referring to. If it is 100 mbps, it is likely to be the speed between your computer and your phone jack. (Unless you meant kbps?) 100 mbps rate and 54 mbps rate are super-high speed broadband, seen only in city-central or high business-density locations, and would be very expensive for a home user!

Subject: [vip_students] broadband connection speed

Hi again

My broadband has been slow recently and when I checked the speed I see that it is gone from 100 to 54Mbps and lower on some occasions. Could this be because my neighbours have recently acquired broadband.

I was the only house able to receive it up to a year ago and my speed was 100Mbps because we had a main line to the house and the neighbours were only on carrier lines.

I intend to ring eircom about it but if anyone had any knowledge on the matter I would be grateful for your opinion.

Edel..
