Hi Ciaran,

I've had to use MySQL a wee bit lately for some Drupal development I've been 
working on.  There are two things you can use:

1. command-line
2.  PHPMyAdmin.

This latter works well if you can install a local webserver (XAMP or WAMP would 
do the trick).
