Hi Eamon

I will try to answer all your questions in one mail, I do hope this is okay.

Firstly, your battery issue. Unfortunately, given the phone's age, I
suspect you are right, and that the battery is indeed coming to the
end of it's little life.
You may be able to send it to apple, or alternatively try GSM
solutions, it's on abby street somewhere, perhaps someone else might
be able to direct you better than I can, though I do know that for a
small additional fee, they operate a pick up and drop off service
which may be handier for you and suit you better than trecking in and
out.

now, some of your android questions to the best of my knowledge. I
would like to say though that I am not exactly an experienced user
perseh, so maybe someone else knows more than I do.

There is no equivalent of screen curtain that I know of, and no way of
turning speech off either, again that I know of. I think that it does
fonetic text though.

Note I am using an android phone as my non primary device, and even
still I notice that I don't get things like unread messsage/email
counts/missed call counts, web browsing is not as good by default,
though I believe you can install the mozila browser for a pretty good
experience, but as I said, this is not first hand experiences so it
would probably be a bit of trial and error were you to switch to an
android phone as your primary device.

I am not bashing android at all here, merely stating that for me, IOS
simply works better, and I do feel I have some authority with which to
speak as I have tried the system as primary phone for a time and now
as I said I use it as my non primary device, and unfortunately it is
just missing little things that IOS has by default. Not saying that
IOS doesn't have limitations just my opinion.
Were I advising you eamon, I would say go for a 4s, but this is why
lists like this one are useful, because perhaps others will share
their knowledge and expertise on the subject and help you make a more
informed decision than I can.

Thanks and hope this has helped even a little

Kerie
