The audio description research I described earlier is now also taking place in Cork. Anyone interested? Same arrangements as previously stated.

Dear all,

NCBI is looking for paid participants in Dublin and Galway to take
part in research on audio description. This is open to people who
regularly watch audio described television programmes, for example
through Sky. It will involve a telephone interview and participation
in a focus group. Participants will be paid €60.

Background and details:

The quotas for audio description on Irish television are under review.
At the moment, only RTÉ is required to provide any audio description
and that only amounts to 1% of programmes on RTÉ One and RTÉ Two.
NCBI, in partnership with other organisations through the TV Access
campaign, is calling for very large increases in audio description
quotas across all Irish channels, plus the introduction of minimum
quality standards. The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) is
carrying out research into audio description before making its
decisions on the new quotas and standards.

BCI has commissioned OCS Consulting to carry out interviews and focus
groups with audio description users. NCBI has agreed to facilitate
this work and we are looking to recruit a number of people in Dublin
and Galway. Participants will undertake the following two activities:

1. A telephone interview of up to 30 minutes, some time during June at
your convenience.

2. A focus group session lasting up to an hour and a quarter at NCBI's
offices in Drumcondra or Galway, some time during the first two weeks
of July.

Participants will be paid €60 on attendance at the focus group session.

If you are interested in taking part in this valuable work that will
have an impact on the amount of audio description available to Irish
television viewers, please email me at mark.magennis@xxxxxxxx

Thanks,
Mark Magennis
