Also my friend told me that Kindle batteries can be replaced but I should not
do it on my own as it is complicated and would need assistance.

hi. you learn something new every day! i would never say never.
keeping a charge on the devide when stored for awhile is the way to go
according to this article. it is a really good read. they recommend a
50 percent charge when storing and never fully discharging your device
battery.
this will probably change some of my procedure. like i say, never say never.
