hi greg. the kindle fire will allow one to change the speed from .7 to
4 times the normal reading speed.
first, you have to open a book in the kindle fire reader.
double tap on the screen.
a menu will come up.
swipe through the options.
you will hear your current speed.
the next option (i believe) is a speed option. each time you tap it
will move up to the next speed.
when you get to the one you like, swipe to play.

I think not being able to speed up the reading is a limitation of the OS
and not the app itself. I have the same issue when I use the kindle app
to read a book. I cannot speed up the reading voice in that one eiter.
