hi. tom. you don't need to tap on the alexa app or open that.
you just need to be on the home page (the one with all the apps), and
mouse your finger at the bottom of the screen, where you will hear
back, home and app switcher.
this is the home button that you need to do a double tap and hold
until you hear the chime, then release and talk into the top of the
fire with your request. when that happens, do something simple like
saying "what is four plus four".
that's all there is to it!
when you are able to swipe left and right through back, home and app
switcher, when you swipe to home just do your double tap and hold in
the middle of the screen. the fire will focus on home and you don't
have to tap right on top of it!
note also, you have to be running os 5.3.2.1 and alexa has to be on in
quick settings.
