So, I was messing around this morning on my Moto X with CSip Simple. My company has an Asterisk based PBX system for our business phone line which uses sip to connect to the server. Every so often, if my screen was unlocked, I'd hear the notification status bar item for CSip Simple get refreshed and tell me it was registerring. I think it's doing this kind of as a keep alive thing. You know how in some sip clients regardless the platform you run them on how there is a keep alive setting, and by default it's usually set via seconds to something like 3600? Anyway, I kept getting really sick of hearing that every darn time I had the phone unlocked. So, I went on a quest to find the setting to turn that stupid thing off. Granted, it's nice, don't get me wrong, and it's great to be able to know you're still connected and still registered on the sip proxy, but you can check that near the top center of the screen on your dialpad or your recent calls within the app, so having the status bar there is honestly rather annoying, seeing it talks every time you have it refresh the updated status. God forbid you have your Talkback set to read notifications and speak when the screen is locked.

Anyway, so in the app, I went to the top right corner of the screen and popped open my more options menu, and went to settings. I practically looked everywhere and couldn't find a setting to save my life! I'm going: OK, this is ridiculous! there's gotta be a way to shut those idiotic things off. Finally, upon closer look, I realized something I'd been seeing, but honestly never really thought much of. Once you go to more options, then settings, there is another! more options button. So, I went in there a second time, from within the settings of CSip Simple. In here, I found something called Expert Mode. I went there, then! looked again! under user interface. Vwa? La! I scrolled down near the bottom of the screen and boom! there it was! I was able to uncheck the option for the status bar notifications. Once I did that, I've not had it pop up on me again since. Needless to say, I'm now a very happy camper, as that was driving me insane! Point is, if you see something on the screen, don't just over look different ellementsx without exploring every part of the screen. You may be very very surprised to find, the one option you need might be berried in that one place you thought to be irrellevent. Lessons learned, I guess. LOL!
