The day was lovely, and here's who was out and about: Carolina Wren (serenading nicely) Redbellied Woodpecker* Tufted Titmouse Carolina Chickadee Northern Cardinal Double-crested Cormorant Canada Goose Osprey (clutching fish) Redtailed Hawk (a pair doing aerial displays) Eastern Towhee* Green Heron Fish Crow Turkey, Black Vulture(s) Tree Swallow Mallard Duck Palm Warbler Hermit Thrush (pair) Ruby-crowned Kinglet (a little group, singing amongst the holly trees) Common Grackle Red-winged Blackies American Robin Louisiana Waterthrush (yes, I am sure it's L. and not N.) Barred Owl* Hairy Woodpecker (f) Ovenbird White-breasted Nuthatch Belted Kingfisher Swamp Sparrow White-throated Sparrow, tan stripe Key: f = female j = juvenile m = male * = auditory ID only When I first spotted one of the Redtails, it was flying toward a stand of pine trees; as it neared, the Osprey popped out the top of the grove, whistling in protest.
