Hi,
The highlight of my outing to Riverbend Park this morning was a HOUSE WREN seen
and heard in the meadow. It was in the NW corner perched in a lone 6' tall Am.
Holly. It flew to the south a bit and I couldn't relocate it.
White-throated and Song Sparrows were abundant in the meadow. Ring-billed
Gulls and Buffleheads were abundant on the Potomac but the river held little
else. The Bald Eagles were at their nest.
If the House Wren didn't winter locally, perhaps it is an early migrant, pushed
northward by the mild weather. This species winters commonly north to SE
Virginia.
