Potomac Flier Newsletter. Please pass the info on
to any teens you know of who might be interested.
PS Some one e-mailed me recently asking what I
consider to be a teen. I guess "teen" means ages
13-19, though I think this club would be most
useful for students aged 13-17.
Please have any interested teens contact me to
let me know of their interest even if they cannot
come to this first meeting.

New Teen Birding Club Formed

Attention Teens, and Parents, Friends, and
Neighbors of Teens Who Love Birds!
There's a new club in town--the Northern Virginia
Teen Birding Club.
Sponsored jointly by Fairfax Audubon and Flint
Hill School, the club will be led by Mr. Fred
Atwood, FAS Board member, master birder, and
teacher of high school ornithology at Flint Hill.
Both experts and beginners are welcome.
The first meeting will be held October 4 and will
begin with birding at whatever nearby location
the VA-BIRD list serve has reported the hottest
birds, followed by an organizational meeting to
discuss how the club can best meet the needs of
members and support their interest in birds.

if you would like to go on this trip, or even if
you cannot come on this field trip, to let him
know of your interest in joining the club.
Meet at Flint Hill School in Oakton, VA (Fairfax
County) at 8AM Saturday, October 4.
Transportation for the field trip will be
provided (school minibus.) Following the
meeting, participants will be picked up at the
school at 12 noon.
To get to Flint Hill, take Rte. 66 to exit 60
(this is west of the Beltway and east of Fair
Oaks Mall.) Take the ramp towards Vienna (not
Fairfax) onto Rte. 123. At the second light (1/4
mile) turn left onto Jermantown Road. Drive a
little less than a mile (passing through the
traffic light at Oak Marr Park) and turn right
into the campus just after Oak Marr Park (before
you reach the second traffic light.) Meet in the
Biology/Ornithology Lab above the entrance on the
second floor.
