I looked yesterday evening for the Swallow-tailed Kite that has been seen in
the area of Route 17 just north of the York River, across from Yorktown. My
main focus was the mall at the intersection of Route 17 with 216. I also
drove east on 216 and came back to Route 17 by Tidemill Road. I thought I
heard parrots or parakeets where Tidemill Road crosses a creek east of Route
17, but was never able to spot the source of the noise. I spent about 3 and
1/2 hours looking for the kite, but never encountered the bird.
Saw some interesting marshes out by Maryus, east of Route 17, in the area of
SR 648 and 649. Might try for the kite another day.
