Friends....
For those of you who might be interested, Yesterday morning sometime Charlie
Chambers ID a female evening grosbeak sitting on the top of a feeder in the
front yard. She stayed there for at least 20 minutes, giving him good
views.
She was as gray as a mockingbird he told me, which led to a problem with the
ID! Only Sibley's art shows the female as gray, the rest as brownish. In
Peterson if you read the fine print it says gray, but the painting is
brownish!
she has not returned, but evening grosbeaks [male or female] are seen so
rarely these days I was advised to post the sighting. Charlie said she was
quite beautiful and so large as to call attention. He even compared her to
the gold finches, and then found out She is a finch.
