Ok, I won't bore anyone further with this - I'll post when the birds STOP
using the towers as a roost.
For at least the past 4 nights, 2 imm. White Ibis have been roosting on
power transmission towers here on the Nansemond River in Suffolk. They
share the roost with 50-75 DC Cormorants.
Last night they did not arrive until around 7:30 and they were gone by 6:30
this morning. They are interesting to watch. One seems to stay in one
place after arrival and one seems to hop around quite a bit, often
shaking/opening its bill & lowering its head toward any close cormorants.
I'm going to rise early tomorrow to see if I can find out which way they fly
after leaving the roost. Note that this is the 3rd record I have of WHIB in
Suffolk over the past 10 years - all within a mile or so of where these
birds are now roosting.
Good Birding!
