Hi Everyone,
Thanks to a Fairfax County Teacher Work day I was able to spend a great day
with my 6 year old son. I told him about the Snowy Owl and he
enthusiastically yelled, "that's one that I looked up!!" He has been
reading through my field guides on the way to school in the morning and the
owls caught his eye. So he told me he wanted to "see what a Snowy Owl
really looks like." Off to Dulles we go!
When we got to the parking garage, ~10:30, there were no birders present. I
think, uh oh, it's just the two of us to find the owl. So my son was using
my binocs and I was scoping the runway. After a couple of minutes, "Daddy!
I think I see it!!!!" And guess what? He did! It was sitting fairly close
atop a UPS airplane tail, behind the building to the right of the post
office. We had great binocular and scope views for about half an hour.
Then to top off the day we had an adult Bald Eagle circling over our
subdivision in Springfield.
A great day!
