I had three new species for the park: the aforementioned woodcock and a barn
swallow on Friday and a flyover common loon on Thursday. I think that makes
112 total since I started keeping records about 5 years ago. The woodcock I
flushed three times along the path I was walking. Can't imagine it would be
breeding here, so it must be moving through. I've never seen one that wasn't
displaying before. Newcomers for the year were common yellowthroat on
Thursday, a northern waterthrush and scarlet tanager (making a ticking
vocalization that I haven't heard before) on Friday. Other sightings of
note:
2 palm warbler and 1 junco on 4/18 (these guys won't be around much longer)
osprey 4/19 (only seen once before in this dry location)
blue jays (lots moving through)
