Greetings,
This was posted to the New River Valley listserv Friday afternoon by Allen

Allen:
You might be interested in a sighting I had yesterday of a scissor-tailed
flycatcher. I saw it at Countryside Golf Course in Roanoke (that's the one near
the airport along 581); yes, I was playing golf too. Although I commented about
it to him, I'm not sure if Steve McMullin also saw it. It was on the front 9
holes (probably one of the middle holes, 3-6?).
Anyhow, even without binocs, there is no question about the identification -
I've seen lots in the southern Great Plains. While the tail was still very
distinct, it wasn't as exceptionally long as it can be - my guess it is that
was
probably an immature bird.
Maybe it isn't that unusual, but I've never seen one this far out of their
"normal" range. I thought you and the rest of the birding community would be
interested in this.
