This afternoon (18 June) my student, Sashsa, and I head both a Virginia
Rail and a Sora near the boardwalk of the Meadow Loop Trail at Blandy
Experimental Farm (State Arboretum of Virginia). The Sora occasionally
seemed to answer the Virginia. Sasha was in the area longer than I was and
thought there were likely 2 Soras. Virginia Rails bred at Blandy in 1998
(adult and chicks were seen), but if Soras are breeding here, that would be
a first for my time here. Seems an unusual record for the Shenandoah
Valley in general.
