Katherine Higgins from Independence, VA and I found the 5 Sandhill
Cranes just off exit 35 (Interstate 81), near Chilhowie, VA. today
around noon time. The 5 beautiful birds were in the broomsage field
about 1 1/2 miles from the interstate on the left side of state road
762 going south of Chilhowie just past the orchard on the right.
Also present along the fence row was a Loggerhead Shrike and a Hairy
Woodpecker.
