Hello All,
I couldn't believe my eyes yesterday, May 22 (time 15:30 hours) when
driving down Forest Lane (Rt. 601) is southern Stafford Co. I came
across a SANDHILL CRANE in a small field between two houses! I watched
the bird for about 10 minutes, and then quickly drove to work and
retrieved a digital camera to document the sighting, figuring no one was
ever going to believe me. Upon my return I found the bird in the front
yard of a neighboring house. The bird spent approx. 10 minutes looking
rather confused, when I realized it was seeing it's reflection in the
front door. The bird then walked up on the door stoop to investigate
the reflection. After several minutes it retreated from the front
stoop to the lawn. By this time my truck began to draw the attention of
the neighbor, who let their dog out. I tried my best to keep the dog
focused on me and not the bird, but it caught sight of the bird and
flushed it across the street. The bird landed in the large, recently
planted, corn field. As I tried to capture another photo the (*%^#)
dog again put a chase on the bird who took flight and put down a long
distance away behind a line of trees. I went to investigated, but
couldn't find the bird.=20
I didn't get a chance to look for the bird this morning. Hopefully
someone else will. I've attached the photos I took. If they don't come
through, just email me and I'll send them to you. =20

Rt. 3 EAST (King's Hwy) from Fredericksburg about three miles to Forest
Lane (RT 601).
Turn LEFT on 601 and proceed about 1/4 mile.
The bird was last seen in the large fields on the right.
Photos are taken of the bird in the front yard/stoop of the blue house
on the left.
I hope this bird is seen again!

P.S. Spotted a Wilson's Warbler at George Washington's Ferry Farm the
same day.
