Mark Moran and I just saw a bright male mourning warbler. It gave a
brief snatch of song (sounding a bit like burry yellowthroat, slightly
reminiscent of Kentucky). It briefly responded to pishing and sat up
where we could see it. It had a very well-defined crescent bib that
didnât appear to extend into the throat at all.
In addition to other typical stuff, we also had 2 late WHITETHROATS and
a very late CREEPER.
The best access for the mourning warbler spot is from the entrance of
the Little Hunting Park Swim and Tennis Club, at the intersection of
Coventry and Canterbury (ADC map 24 D12). Walk east along the chain
link fence to the tennis courts. At the corner of the first tennis
court, take the path about 10 feet down the slop by the fallen tree.
It was in a bush 10 feet to the south. This is the same spot where I
had one about 4 years ago, and where I had a Kentucky earlier this year.
