The Painted Bunting was a no-show in Cape Charles at 9 Randolph Avenue on
Monday, St. Patrick's Day (cold fog all day), nor on Tuesday morning, but it
returned at 5:12 p.m. Tuesday evening (yesterday) and was present again this
morning, beginning at 6:40.
In the harbor today, a major foraging frenzy of Northern Gannets was
impressive; over 800 birds were dropping like stones over schooling fish,
probably Atlantic Menhaden, just a few yards from the Bayshore Concrete
Factory. Also in the harbor were both loons, 8 Horned Grebes, 2 Long-tailed
Ducks.
