VA-Birders,
The 15 people on the Northern Virginia Bird Club trip to Lucketts today
saw at least 47 species of birds. Highlights were about 20 Purple Martins at
the big martin colony on Rt. 662 (across from Faith Chapel), 1 pair each of
Tree and Barn Swallows, a White-eyed Vireo, 3 Brown Thrashers, and 7 species
of sparrows, including 6 Am. Tree Sparrows (on the north side of Rt. 661 just
east of the one-lane bridge), 3 Chipping Sparrows, 3 White-crowned Sparrows
on Rt. 658 (near the old kiln), and 3 Vesper Sparrows on Rt. 661 (on the
wooden fence across the road from the equestrian center).
