Well Ben (and all), the MOURNING WARBLER was still present in White Oaks park
this morning between 7:30 and 8 am. I first saw the bird working low in a
maple tree that is bent over near the split rail fence at the corner or
Covington and Coventry. The dark bib was clearly visible against the yellow
body. It
then disappeared in the low brush (Jewel weed and some thorny roses) and sang
a bit and "checked" a bit as it worked away from the street. It jumped up for
a brief moment before going silent in the brush again. Mowing at the tennis
club began to drown out bird songs.
White Oaks is in the Hollin Hills area, between FT. Hunt Rd and Rt 1, South
of Belleview/Beacon HIll Rd. I'm so glad this bird is in my neighborhood.
Wakefield Park is a ways away....Rich Rieger
