Leesylvania SP did not have much in the way of diversity this morning, but it
was still fun. The hillside and picnic area were practically devoid of
warblers, with only a single yellow seen. I did see a good number of baltimore
orioles and a ton of robins. Both species were partaking in the abundant
cherry crop in the park. Also present were a couple of red-eyed vireos,
eastern bluebird, great-crested flycatcher, yellow-billed cuckoo, pewee,
chipping sparrow, indigo bunting, and lots of swifts. I next stopped at the
boardwalk adjacent to the car-top boat launch area, and was amazed to find 4
prothonotary warblers and a yellow-throated warbler hopping around on the
boardwalk. There must have been something good to eat because they did not
leave as I stood at the end and watched. Three of the prothonotaries were
hatch year, the fourth an adult male. In the vegetation alongside the
boardwalk were prairie, blue-winged, and black-and-white warblers and a
warbling vireo. Not bad. The beaver pond yielded only a house wren and some
more indigo buntings.
