This Saturday is the 17th annual Kiptopeke Challenge team birding event to
help support Coastal Virginia Wildlife Observatory's efforts with the
study of migratory birds. The Wild Birds Unlimited of Williamsburg team has
participated each year (this year Calvin Brennan, Paul Nasca, Chris Foster and
me) and several times we have dedicated our big days to friends who have
passed away. This year, we are dedicating the day to two wonderful women and
great volunteers, who passed away this year...Doris Smith (97) who, along
with her husband Walter, were founding volunteers of the Kiptopeke Songbird
Station and Mary Pulley (93)...their work lives on through our work and
through the Mary Watt Pulley Wildlife Preservation Fund of Mathews County
Community Foundation. Our team welcomes all sponsors and if anyone is
interested in sponsoring our team, please contact me directly.
