I birded Kerr Reservoir and some surrounding areas in Mecklenburg County
today=2E One of the first birds I heard upon arrival at the marsh on rout=
e 1
was a YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER=2E Heard several more throughout the day=2E=
=20
Lots of AMERICAN COOTS and an OSPREY working on a nest in that marsh=2E=20=
Elsewhere, highlights included a RED-THROATED LOON on the main lake above
the dam as well as 25 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS=2E New arrival at that spot=
were a few NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS=2E Many HORNED GREBES and COMMO=
N
LOONS were in transitional plumage and scattered throughout the lake=2E A=
half dozen RUDDY DUCKS were seen as well as 9 GADWALL and a few BUFFLEHEAD=
=2E
A lone adult HERRING GULL was among the many RING-BILLED and BONAPARTE'S
GULLS=2E Below the dam, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS was working the exposed rock=
s=2E=20
I quickly visited Clyde's Pond at Dick Cross WMA and saw more gadwall,
coots, RING-NECKED DUCKS and a pair of BLUE-WINGED TEAL=2E PIED-BILLED
GREBES were vocalizing quite loud there too=2E I didn't spend much time l=
and
birding but 3 RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS and a WINTER WREN were noted=2E Good=
birding=2E
