17 Horned Grebes, 4 Red-necked Grebes, and 2 Pied-billed Grebes were
observed on Occoquan Bay early this morning.  The Red-necked Grebes were
hanging out with a group of Ruddies and were clearly larger than the ducks
(their bills were also significantly longer than the group of Horned Grebes
nearby).  Both Pied-billed Grebes were associating with L. Scaup. Waterfowl
numbers were greatly reduced from two weeks ago, though large numbers of
Red-breasted Mergansers were present, along with a single Tundra Swan. Other
birds of interest included 2 Purple Martins, 1 Am. Woodcock, 1 Brown
Thrasher, 1 Common Loon and some gobbling Wild Turkey.
