I took a wide loop today that included Huntley Meadows, Sky Meadows State
Park and Goose Creek Marsh on Rt. 650 in Loudon County.

Hightlights:

Huntley Meadows -
Barn Swallow - 1 mixed in with 15+ Tree Swallow
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher near visitor's center
Am.Black Duck
Green-winged Teal
Hooded Merganser
No. Shoveler
Gadwall
King Rail
Winter Wren
Marsh Wren
Swamp Sparrow

Sky Meadows State Park
Bobwhite
Great Blue Heron - single heron perched in oak tree approximately 175+
yards from road near entrance.  Didn't appear to be nesting material and no
other herons were found.

Goose Creek marsh area
Am. Wigeon
Hooded Merganser
Blue-winged Teal
Am.Black Duck
Greater Yellowleg
Snipe - lots of snipe.  In fact, I discovered 20+ in a close-knit group
actively feeding.   Is this normal behavior for them to congregate in such
a large group?
