Perhaps it was a combination of, 1-A beautiful spring morning, 2- The first day
of school spring break, and, 3 - the recent publicity in the Washington
Post, but 24 birders turned out for this morning's Huntley Meadows Monday
Morning Birdwalk. The last large turnout like this that I recall was when
David Sibley joined the walk and over 40 showed up. The group was not
disappointed as they spotted 50 species, with the number one highlight being
the two American Bitterns that have been regularly reported in the past ten
days. Perhaps this pair will nest here - one can only hope. Other highlights
were a large flock of Wilson's Snipes and two pair of exquisitely beautiful
Wood Ducks.
